Tripping

We have more time now - although a bit less money - now that I am semi-retired. That's translated into more trips, starting with what I call my "graduation trip" to Nova Scotia.

The weather was perfect and the scenery was more peaceful than dramatic. This picture was taken on the lawn of a fast food restaurant on Cape Breton. Image finding this kind of a view from the front of your local McDonald's. But that's how it seemed to be in Nova Scotia, not many people (Halifax is the big city of Nova Scotia with a population of just about 350,000) and plenty of elbow room to enjoy the view.

We spent about 10 days in Nova Scotia, flying into Halifax and then - in our tiny and cute red car - headed off to a cabin on the tip of Cape Breton (well, near the tip) near North Shore ... a place so small that you won't find it on many maps.

We found the cabin on the Web and the rental agent promised that "you'll be so close to the ocean that you can throw a rock from your front door and hit it." That's the cabin and my rented front door behind us.

Well, it's doable - as far as throwing a rock and hitting the ocean from the front door. I tried and failed but I was told once - by a girl - that I throw like a girl.

We were lucky, as far as the weather - even though a hurricane did blow through while we were there. It's a part of the country where there is a lot of rain. In fact, one day I ran into a woman on a very rainy day and she said - without sarcasm - "good weather for a change."

Our trip to North Carolina - just a few weeks later - wasn't nearly as fancy and we didn't stay as long, but it was still nice. You can click on this link to check it out.
